Effective January 12, 2011, the Richland Township Water Authority has increased its water rates.
The main reason for the increase is the additional operating expense for the new filtration systems that have been installed at our well stations. These filtration systems will make the Richland Township Water Authority compliant with the arsenic regulation along with addressing the iron and manganese issues that have bothered us for many years.
The new rate schedule is:
Operational fee: $12.50 per quarter
0 to 18,000 gallons: $3.00 per thousand gallons
18,001 to 25,000 gallons: $3.75 per thousand gallons
25,001 to 35,000 gallons: $4.25 per thousand gallons
35,001 gallons and over: $6.50 per thousand gallons
At this new rate, our average residential customer will pay about $266 per year for water, which is equivalent to 73 cents per day for an entire household’s daily water supply. For an average household of three people, the cost is 24 cents per person per day.
A new DEP Tier I Regulation, effective May 2010, mandates that water companies have the ability to personally notify all of their customers within 24 hours in the event of an emergency. A Tier 1 Emergency would cause adverse health effects as a result of short-term exposure.
All RTWA customers should have provided our office with emergency contact information. If you have not, please email Dianne McLane or call the office at 215-536-4733. We will need your home phone number, plus an email address and cell phone number, if available.
